Pakosta: the ,,one in, one out’’ principle is on the table in Brussels

Minister of Justice and Digital Affairs, Liisa Pakosta is in Brussels, where she met with European Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law and Consumer Protection, Michael McGrath; Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner and Executive Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, Henna Virkkunen.

The meeting with Commissioner Michael McGrath focused on Estonia's e-government, the digitalization of the justice sector, and reducing bureaucracy. Topics such as Estonia's e-government, the digitalization of the justice sector, and reducing bureaucracy were discussed. The main focus of the joint meeting was the legislative goal based on the ,,one in, one ou’’ principle, which Minister Liisa Pakosta called for joint implementation. ,,With Commissioner Michael McGrath, we discussed reducing barriers in the internal market, simplifying reporting requirements for businesses, and cybersecurity,’’ Pakosta said, adding, ,,The Commissioner noted that there is much to learn from Estonia's ideas and proposals on justice sector digitalization and reducing bureaucracy.’’ She also invited Commissioner McGrath to visit Estonia to explore the digital solutions offered by the e-government.

In her meeting with Commissioner Magnus Brunner, the focus was on the importance of digital solutions in cross-border cooperation in criminal matters, as well as cybersecurity and data processing. They also discussed increasing the role of eu-LISA in the justice sector. ,,Commissioner Magnus Brunner was interested in the topic of data retention, and they are awaiting Estonia's proposals and examples of our practices. We also discussed supporting Ukraine, which remains of great importance,’’ Minister Pakosta said. 

Executive Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, Henna Virkkunen, shared Liisa Pakosta's view that reducing bureaucracy is crucial. Virkkunen praised Estonia's digital solutions, noting that they serve as a model for other countries. ,,It was good to hear that Estonia's digital solutions are a model, and at the European Union level, efforts are now being made to follow the same path—acknowledging that digital solutions and e-services have made life easier for entrepreneurs and businesses,’’ Minister Pakosta said. ,,We also talked about the importance of funding digitalization, as ensuring adequate funding for the development of the digital sector will continue to be crucial in the futuure,’’ she added.

Minister Liisa Pakosta is in Brussels until Friday. On Friday, December 6, The TTE Council will take place, in which the Minister will also participate.
