No written contract

Can’t prove your work hours? Employer claims there was no agreement?

Verbal contracts are legally valid, but you have the right to request a written one. It should include:

•    Names, ID numbers, and addresses of both the employer and the employee
•    Job start date
•    Job description
•    Salary and payday
•    Training and benefits
•    Working hours and location
•    Rest periods
•    Termination rules, collective agreement references
•    Overtime info
•    Trial period

Always read the proposed contract carefully and never sign a document you don't fully understand. If the employer refuses to provide a written contract or avoids including an important point in the agreement, they likely have something to hide. Do not enter an employment relationship if you feel the employer is trying to deceive you with the contract – you may later be left without wages or other rights.
